Harry Azikov
Harry Viktorovich Azikov, a pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Georgia, is an ethnic German. He was born on the 25th of April, 1937, in Baku, Azerbaijan. Since the end of 1938 he has lived in Tbilisi, Georgia.
From 1945-1955 he attended school. From 1958-1988 he studied and finished his education as a student at the Georgian Politechnical Institute, where he specialized in electrical engineering for civil, business and agricultural power plants. From 1953-1996 he work in various companies, scientific institutes and construction bureaus. He worked his way up the ladder from apprentice to the head of construction. He has been married since 1961. He has a son and a grandson.
Since September 1991 he has taken an active role in the re-birth of the Lutheran congregation in Tbilisi, and in October of 1992 was baptized. He participated in the formation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Georgia and founded congregations in the cities of Rustavi, Bolnisi and Gardabani. In 1994 was ordained as a pastor.
He was a delegate for the 1st and 2nd General Synods of ELCROS. Since 1998 he has been the vice-Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Georgia for spiritual questions. He is the head of the church council at the Church of the Reconciliation (Tbilisi). He studied in the extension program of the Theological Seminary from 1998-2000, when he finished his studies. His favorite subjects were Church History, Denominations, Religious Studies and Theology. He enjoys music and is a collector of stamps and maps. He was awarded the Medal of Honor (1998) for his work in strengthening tolerance in Georgia.
